A local SEO checklist for a Rajkot business comes down to five jobs: set up and verify your Google Business Profile correctly, keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere, build a website page for each service you sell, earn genuine reviews and reply to them, and make your site fast and mobile-friendly. Do those well and you give Google what it needs to show you in the map pack when someone nearby searches for what you sell. This guide walks through each item, in the order we work through them for clients.
How does Google decide which local businesses to show?
Google says local results are based mainly on three things: relevance, distance and prominence (the help page also calls this last one popularity). Relevance is how well your Business Profile matches what someone searched for. Distance is how far you are from the searcher. Prominence is how well known your business is, which Google says includes links to your site and the number of reviews you have (Google Business Profile Help).
The same page is clear that "there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google." Everything in this checklist works on relevance and prominence, because distance is out of your hands.
Independent research points the same way. Whitespark's 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey of local SEO practitioners ranks the primary Google Business Profile category as the top factor for the map pack, and a dedicated page for each service as the top factor for local organic results (Whitespark).
Part 1: Google Business Profile checklist
Your Business Profile is the listing that appears in Google Maps and the local pack. For most Rajkot shops, clinics, showrooms and service firms, it brings in more calls than the website does.
1. Claim and verify the profile
- Search for your business on Google Maps. If a listing already exists, claim it rather than creating a second one.
- Choose a verification method. Google offers phone or text, email, video call, video recording and postcard, and decides which options each business sees (Google Business Profile Help).
- If you get a postcard, watch for it. Google says most codes arrive within 14 days and expire after 30 days.
- Keep the profile live after verification. Posts don't show while a profile is unverified (Google Business Profile Help).
2. Use your real business name only
Google's guidelines say your name should match your real-world name, "as used consistently on your storefront." Adding taglines, phone numbers, website addresses or location details to the name isn't permitted and can get the profile suspended (Google guidelines).
This matters in Rajkot, where many listings read like "Best Website Company Rajkot Kalawad Road." If that isn't the name on your signboard and your GST papers, take it off. A suspended profile costs far more than any ranking a stuffed name might win.
3. Get the address and service area right
- Use a precise address. P.O. boxes and virtual offices aren't allowed (Google guidelines).
- If you visit customers rather than receive them (plumbers, interior designers, pest control), hide your address and set a service area instead.
- Google says a service area shouldn't extend beyond about two hours' drive from your base. For a Rajkot business, that comfortably covers Morbi, Jamnagar, Gondal and Junagadh, but not Ahmedabad.
- Create only one profile per location.
4. Pick the right primary category
Choose the most specific category that describes your main business ("Dental clinic", not "Doctor"). Add secondary categories for other things you genuinely do. Because the primary category carries so much weight, look at what the top three businesses in your map pack use before you decide.
5. Fill in services, hours and attributes
If your category supports it, add each service with a short description. Google rejects custom service names that include prices, phone numbers or gibberish (Google Business Profile Help). Set accurate opening hours, including special hours for Diwali, Navratri and other holidays when you close or open late.
6. Add real photos and short videos
Google says photos make a profile more attractive to customers and an exterior photo helps people recognise you when they arrive. Photos should be JPG or PNG between 10 KB and 5 MB, with 720 x 720 pixels recommended. Videos can be up to 30 seconds long (Google Business Profile Help).
Upload your storefront, your team at work, your products and finished projects. Skip stock images and heavy filters.
7. Post regularly
Profiles support three post types: updates, offers and events. Posts are archived after six months unless you set a date range (Google Business Profile Help). A weekly post about a new product, a completed project or a seasonal offer keeps the profile active and gives searchers a reason to call.
Part 2: Name, address and phone (NAP) checklist
NAP means your business name, address and phone number. Google and other directories compare these across the web, so mismatches create doubt about which details are correct.
| Where | What to check |
|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Name, address, phone, website link, hours |
| Your website footer and contact page | Same name, address and phone as the profile, written in text (not only inside an image) |
| Justdial, IndiaMART, Sulekha | Same details; remove old numbers and old addresses |
| Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn | Same phone and address in the about section |
| Bing Places and Apple Business Connect | Claimed and matching |
| GST registration and invoices | Same legal or trading name you use online |
In Whitespark's 2026 survey, "HTML NAP matching GBP NAP" ranked in the top 15 map pack factors. Whitespark also notes that while classic citations matter less than before, mentions of your business across the web are becoming more important for AI search (Whitespark). If you moved office or changed your number in the last few years, this section is likely where you are losing ground.
Part 3: Website checklist
8. One page for each service
A single "Services" page listing everything you do gives Google little to match against specific searches. Build a separate page for each main service, with the service and city in the title and H1, a clear description, who it's for, FAQs and a way to contact you. A Rajkot CA firm, for example, would have separate pages for GST registration, income tax filing and company incorporation.
9. Make it work on phones first
Google uses the mobile version of your site for indexing and ranking, and recommends responsive design that keeps the same content, titles and structured data on mobile and desktop (Google Search Central). If your mobile site hides content to look cleaner, Google may not see it.
10. Hit the Core Web Vitals targets
Google's "good" thresholds are a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of visits (web.dev). You can check your pages free in PageSpeed Insights. For the common causes of a slow site, see our post on 10 signs your business website is losing you customers.
11. Add LocalBusiness structured data
Structured data tells Google your business details in a format it can read directly. For LocalBusiness markup, Google requires name and address and recommends properties such as telephone, url, geo coordinates and openingHoursSpecification (Google Search Central). Make sure the values match your Business Profile exactly.
12. Write content that answers local questions
Add short, direct answers to the questions your customers ask on the phone: delivery areas, turnaround times, which brands you stock, whether you serve GIDC units in Metoda or Shapar. These answers help both Google and AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini understand what you offer. Our guide to what GEO is explains how AI search picks which businesses to mention.
Part 4: Reviews checklist
13. Ask every happy customer for a review
Google lists the number of reviews and positive ratings as factors that can help local ranking (Google Business Profile Help). The simplest system is a short review link sent on WhatsApp after the job is done or the order is delivered.
Reviews also drive decisions. BrightLocal's 2026 survey of US consumers found 97% read reviews for local businesses and 74% only care about reviews from the last three months (BrightLocal). The survey covers the US, but the habit of checking recent Google reviews before calling is just as visible among buyers in Gujarat.
14. Follow the rules on reviews
Google's policy bans paid reviews and incentives "such as payment, discounts, free goods and/or services." It also bans discouraging negative reviews or asking only happy customers for them (Google Maps content policy). Ask everyone, offer nothing in return, and never post reviews from staff or family accounts.
15. Reply to every review
Google says helpful replies show you are responsive to customers (Google Business Profile Help). In BrightLocal's survey, 89% of consumers expect owners to respond, and 50% are put off by templated replies (BrightLocal). Write a short, specific reply that mentions the product or service. For negative reviews, acknowledge the problem, keep it calm and offer to sort it out by phone.
What does a real local SEO result look like?
One of our clients is a criminal defence lawyer. When we started, the practice ranked on Google's first page only for the lawyer's own name. Over 13 months we ran monthly SEO work and updated the Google Business Profile and citations when the office moved. The site now ranks on the first page for 179 keywords, including 79 local search phrases (Google Search Console, 90-day average).
The work followed this checklist: consistent NAP after the move, a properly managed profile, pages built around the services people search for, and steady technical fixes. Nothing in it was a trick. It took time because local SEO compounds month by month.
Which items should you do first?
If you only have a weekend, work in this order:
- Verify the Business Profile and fix the name, category and hours.
- Make the phone number and address identical on the profile, website, Justdial and social pages.
- Upload 10 to 20 real photos.
- Send a review link to your last 20 customers.
- Check your homepage and main service page in PageSpeed Insights.
Then, over the next one to three months, build the individual service pages, add structured data and start weekly posts. If you are planning a new site to support this, our guide on website development cost in Rajkot explains what affects the budget.
Frequently asked questions
How long does local SEO take to show results in Rajkot?
Profile fixes such as the right category and accurate hours can show an effect within weeks. Rankings for competitive searches usually take several months of steady work. Our lawyer client's results above came over 13 months.
Can I add "Rajkot" or keywords to my Google Business Profile name?
Only if it is part of your real business name as shown on your signboard. Google's guidelines don't permit extra keywords or location details in the name, and breaking that rule can get the profile suspended.
Do I need a website if I already have a Google Business Profile?
The profile alone can bring calls, but a website gives Google more to match against searches and lets you build a page for each service. Google also counts links to your site as part of prominence.
Is it allowed to offer a discount for a Google review?
No. Google's policy bans incentives for reviews, including discounts and free products or services. You can ask every customer for an honest review, without a reward.
Should I create separate Business Profiles for different services?
No. Google allows one profile per location. Add each service inside the same profile and build separate service pages on your website instead.
Does local SEO help with ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews?
Partly. Consistent business details, clear service pages and genuine reviews help AI tools understand and trust your business. Our GEO services cover the AI-specific side in more depth.
